What is Elastane (9%)?
Elastane is a synthetic fiber known for its exceptional elasticity. It is a polymer consisting of at least 85% of a segmented polyurethane, typically produced by reacting a diisocyanate with a long-chain polyester.
Elastane is often used in textiles for its ability to stretch significantly yet maintain its original shape. Clothing like underwear, leggings, and sportswear often contain elastane for added comfort and a snug fit. There is minimal health evidence against its use in textiles, although some people may have sensitivities to the material itself or the chemicals used in its production.
When you see elastane on a label, it's usually included to provide stretch and fit to garments. Allergic reactions are rare but possible, especially for those with sensitive skin.
