Natural Flavorings
What is Natural Flavorings?
Natural flavorings are derived from plant or animal sources through processes such as heating or fermentation. They are used to enhance the taste and aroma of food products without altering nutritional content.
They are popular in the food and beverage industry due to their ability to mimic the taste of fresh ingredients. The health evidence on natural flavorings varies, as it depends on the specific substances used and their concentrations. Most flavor components are generally recognized as safe (GRAS), but some consumers prefer to avoid them due to a lack of specificity about their sources.
When you see 'natural flavorings' on a label, it indicates that the specific flavors are derived from natural sources but does not detail the exact composition or source, which can be of concern for those with allergies or dietary restrictions.
