What is Apricot Juice Concentrate?
Apricot Juice Concentrate is derived by removing most of the water content from apricot juice, resulting in a thicker, more concentrated form. This processing often involves evaporating water through heat and capturing the essence of the apricot's natural sugar and flavor.
It is used in the food and beverage industry primarily as a natural sweetener and flavoring agent. The health evidence around fruit juice concentrates is mixed; while they retain some vitamins and minerals, they are also high in sugar and lack the fiber found in whole fruits.
When you see Apricot Juice Concentrate on a label, it typically indicates the product is sweetened with fruit rather than added sugars, which could appeal to those seeking more natural ingredients.
Commonly found in: sodas, fruit beverages, desserts, yogurts, snack bars
Benefits
- Apricot juice concentrate provides a source of natural sugars as opposed to artificial sweeteners.
- It may contain vitamins and minerals naturally present in apricots, like vitamin A and potassium.
Apricot Juice Concentrate is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) when used appropriately in foods.
Research highlights that while fruit concentrates can offer nutrients, they can also contribute to excessive sugar intake.
Apricot Juice Concentrate is plant-derived and suitable for vegan diets.
