What is Pesticides?
A screening category covering hundreds of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides that can persist as residues on produce and grains. Panels typically test a few hundred compounds at once and report anything above the detection limit.
Each compound has its own EPA tolerance for each crop, so "pesticides: not detected" is the meaningful clean signal; a named detection is worth reading against that compound's specific limit.
What to watch
- Organophosphates and some insecticides are neurotoxic at high exposures; dietary residues are usually far below tolerances.
- Residue exposure stacks across the whole diet, which is why broad panels matter more than single-product alarm.
- EWG's Dirty Dozen crops (strawberries, spinach, kale…) carry the most frequent multi-residue detections.
