Summary
HappyBABY Organic Rice Cakes scored 1/100. Independent 3rd-party testing found inorganic arsenic at 455 ppb — more than 4.5× the FDA's 100 ppb limit for infant rice cereal. Cadmium and lead were also detected. Though USDA Organic, the rice-based formulation carries soil-borne heavy metals, and apple-juice concentrate adds free sugars for a marketed-to-babies finger food.
Contaminants 3
Source: Independent third-party laboratory testing
Arsenic 455 ppb High
Detected at a high level — at or above health-based exposure limits. Regular exposure at this level is a genuine health concern. Inorganic arsenic at 455 ppb — more than 4.5× the FDA's 100 ppb action level for infant rice cereal. Rice readily absorbs arsenic from soil and groundwater.
Independent third-party testing.
Cadmium 5.4 ppb Low
A low level of cadmium — present but modest; a sourcing-quality note rather than a safety concern at typical intake.
Independent third-party testing.
Lead 1.7 ppb Trace
A trace amount of lead — within the range expected from normal soil uptake/processing and below our concern threshold.
Independent third-party testing.
