Summary

Hawaiian Tropic Weightless Hydration SPF 30 scores 15/100. The rebranded successor to the older Silk Hydration line. Active filters are Avobenzone 2.7% + Homosalate 8% + Octocrylene 6% -- the homosalate is over the EU 7.34% cap (endocrine-disruption restriction). No oxybenzone/octinoxate is the marketing win, but the inactive base adds butyloctyl salicylate (another salicylate-family SPF booster), acrylates/C12-22 alkyl methacrylate copolymer (acrylate microplastic), undisclosed fragrance, phenoxyethanol, and chlorphenesin. The 'island botanical' extracts (papaya, mango, passion fruit, guava, plumeria) are flavor-of-the-product additions at sub-1% levels per INCI position. The new formula did remove the parabens that were in the old Silk Hydration body lotion -- modest improvement. Owned by Edgewell Personal Care.

Very Bad

Chemical UV filter present above the EU 7.34% maximum (capped due to endocrine-disruption concerns).

Bad

Chemical UV filter. Degrades into benzophenone (a Prop 65 carcinogen) over time. Skin sensitizer and aquatic toxin.

Butyloctyl Salicylate
Bad

Synthetic SPF booster from the salicylate family. Solvent for chemical filters; structurally similar to octisalate and similar absorption concerns.

Acrylates/C12-22 Alkyl Methacrylate Copolymer
Bad

Acrylate microplastic film-former. Persistent in waterways; EU microplastic restrictions under review.

Phenoxyethanol
Neutral

Synthetic preservative restricted to 1% in the EU. Considered acceptable in rinse-off and leave-on cosmetics; some sensitivity reports.

Chlorphenesin
Bad

Synthetic preservative-booster — CIR-safe and well-tolerated, but a petroleum-derived synthetic that clean brands typically replace with food-grade/natural systems. Minor clean-beauty demerit.
